Peter PanFriday May 9   
First produced on Broadway with Mary Martin and Cyril Richard and more recently a major hit starring Cathy Rigby, this is one of the world's most celebrated musicals. With all the charm of Barrie's classic tale of the boy who never grew up, Peter Pan is a fantastic journey which brings Tinker Bell, John, Michael, Wendy, the pirates, Indians and Never Never Land to life in an endearing musical treat for the entire family. "This comedy follows the adventures of a New York couple trying to have a baby – by any means necessary. Their difficulties conceiving lead them on an "Alice in Wonderland-esque" odyssey through the booming baby business as they negotiate the fertility trade, the adoption industry and their own families."

Narciso ArgüellesFriday May 9   
Narciso Argüelles grew up on both sides of the Mexican and US border and developed the issues surrounding that divide into his upcoming installation at Untitled [ArtSpace].

Narciso Argüelles will have an opening reception on May 9 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Selected works by Luis Jiménez and Joe Ramiro Garcia will be also be shown. The exhibition of the three artists’ work will run through June 28.
Oklahoma City Go Red For Women LuncheonFriday May 9   
Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's nationwide movement that celebrates the energy, passion and power we have as women to band together and wipe out heart disease. Go Red For Women encourages women to make their health a priority and to take positive action to reduce their risk.

William S. Cohen to speak at OU commencementFriday May 9   
William S. Cohen, 20th U.S. Secretary of Defense and the author or co-author of 11 books, including two books of poetry, will deliver the University of Oklahoma's 2008 Commencement address on Friday, May 9. Cohen will receive an honorary degree at the ceremony, which will be in The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Summer Choral CampFriday May 9   
The Canterbury Choral Society hosts the third annual Summer Choral Camp, June 9 - 14 at Oklahoma City University's Bass Music Center.

The camp is open to singers entering grades 2 - 8 in the fall of 2008, able to match pitch and sing in treble range (unchanged voice), able to read simple music notation, and with good vocal quality, attitute, and a recommendation from Music Teacher.

There will be two choirs. Placement will be determined by the Artistic Staff. Each choir will learn music which they will perform on the Saturday concert.

The cost for the week is $75.00. This tuition includes all instruction, a camp T-shirt, Friday’s lunch and daily snacks. (Music teachers receive a free ticket to the Saturday concert, all other adults are $3.00. Children are free.)

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 9, 2008! Confirmation of admission will be mailed to each singer upon receipt of registration. A camp packet with a detailed schedule will be sent after May 9. Each choir will have a membership of 70 singers. If more than 70 applications are received, a waiting list will be formed.

The Parents Assistance Center of Oklahoma City is presenting a bullriding event at Tyler Blount Arena in Guthrie May 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. “BullQuest” will feature some 40 bullriders. Riders will compete in five events, with the top 10 finalists riding a second time for the final prize. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 7-12 and free for children age 6 and under. Brett Weston: Out of the ShadowSaturday May 10   
The Oklahoma City Museum of Art will be the first venue for "Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow," March 20 through May 18, 2008. The exhibition is the first major retrospective of Brett Weston’s work in over 30 years. Although Brett Weston was a key player in the photography world during his lifetime, he was often overshadowed by his father, Edward. Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow will bring to light the younger Weston’s unique creative spirit by examining his long career.

The exhibition presents 136 photographs taken in Mexico and California in the 1920s and 1930s, East Coast images from the 1940s, and landscape and nature photographs taken after he returned to the West Coast in 1948. Many of these images push toward pure abstraction, putting Weston at the forefront of non-objective, fine-art photography.

The historical collection spans over 100 years. The exhibit features more than 150 works of art and ethnographic objects works ranging from paintings and sculpture to textiles and pottery. Both traditional and contemporary works from many tribes are represented, illustrating the rich cultural heritage of Native American artists.
Coffeehouse Evening BenefitSaturday May 10   
The Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship hosts a Coffeehouse Evening to benefit Full Circle Adult Day Care on May 10 at 7:00 p.m. featuring the Celtic music of Boru’s Ghost along with a range of folk music from John Madison and Tom Crider. Many Norman residents are caring for an elder, while working full time and raising children. Many elders are the primary caregiver for their spouse, while dealing with aging issues themselves. Full Circle provides a safe, fun environment for elders with a range of stimulating social and recreational activities, including art, music and movement therapy. Health and mental health monitoring and meals and snacks are also provided. Full Circle also provides caregivers a support group, referrals and coordination, and respite. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Boru’s Ghost is deeply rooted in the ancient traditions of Celtic music, but their style is anything but traditional. They combine a range of instrumentals with complex vocal arrangements with influences as diverse as Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. “This isn’t your standard festival fare, and it certainly shows”, Modern Bard. John Madison performs a variety of traditional and original folk with an Irish influence and delivers it in a powerful style all his own. Tom Cirder does highly introspective original folk blended with complex guitar work.
OKC Phil presents Time for Three String TrioSaturday May 10   
The Oklahoma City Philharmonic Inasmuch Classics Series presents the season finale concert “Time For Three” with the Time for Three String Trio: Zachary DePue on violin, Nicholas Kendall on violin, and Ranaan Meyeer on double bass. The concert is Saturday, May 10th at 8pm.

There will be a pre-concert Music Talk at 7pm featuring the Time For Three guest artists.

Mike Sims of The Lawrence Lithography Workshop in Kansas City will show a broad range of prints from a variety of artists at Untitled [ArtSpace]. Sims will have two presentations with prints for sale, one on May 9 from 1 pm to 4 pm and another on May 10 from 11 am to 1 pm. Both will feature prints from artists who have worked with the renowned print workshop.

Canterbury Youth ChorusesSaturday May 10   
The Canterbury Youth Choruses perform at Petree Recital Hall at the Oklahoma City University on Saturday, May 10th at 5:00pm. Both the Apprentice Choir and the Chorale will perform.

CYC offers vocal music training, education and performance experience to students who have a love for singing and may find themselves without an outlet to pursue their passion for music. It serves as an enhancement for public, private and home schooled students in grades 2-8. It is also a preparatory program for future advanced music education.

Roots and Ties at the CapitolSaturday May 10   
The Oklahoma Arts Council presents Roots and Ties, Works from the Hamilton Press on display in the Governor’s Gallery at the State Capitol through May 17th, 2008. The Governor’s Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the State Capitol and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:00.

The works in the exhibit represent a generation of artists who grew up in Oklahoma and headed west on Route 66 following the Great Depression and World War II. Five of the artists whose work is included in the exhibition, Robert Bonaparte, Joe Goode, Jerry McMillan, Ed Ruscha, and Mason Williams, currently reside on the West coast. In addition, the work of the late Lee Mullican, a Chickasha native who lived in Los Angeles for much of his life will also be part of the exhibition.

This year's exhibition features an artisitc tribute to Acee Blue Eagle (1907 - 1959), an internationally acclaimed Creek/Pawnee artist who studied under Oscar Jacobson at the Jacobson House and the University of Oklahoma School of Art.

Jacobson House Native Art Center in Norman presents the University of Oklahoma American Indian Artists Exhibition April 6 - June 29, 2008.

The annual University of Oklahoma American Indian Artists exhibition features works in a diverse variety of artistic media by award-winning alumni and current students, as well as past and present faculty and staff of the university.

This year's exhibition features an artisitc tribute to Acee Blue Eagle (1907 - 1959), an internationally acclaimed Creek/Pawnee artist who studied under Oscar Jacobson at the Jacobson House and the University of Oklahoma School of Art.

The Norman North Choirs will present the 17th annual Mostly Mozart Concert on Sunday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m in the Nancy O'Brian Center for the Performing Arts. The program is accompanied by a professional orchestra and features the choirs, the Parent Connection Choir, and selected students. Admission is only $5.00. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
Kane, Welch, Kaplin Summer Breeze ConcertSunday May 18   
The Performing Arts Studio presents Kane, Welch, Kaplin in the second Summer Breeze Concert of the season. Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City's only resident chamber music ensemble, ends its season with a concert featuring Brightmusic's wind musicians, with piano and string accompaniment. Selections include Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano by Poulenc; Horn Trio, Op. 40 by Brahms; Quintet for Piano and Winds, K. 452 by Mozart. Town Hall Meeting: Genetics in SocietyTuesday May 27   
The Section of Genetics at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center will be holding a series of Town Hall Meetings to discuss the impact of genetics on society. Nationally recognized speakers will make brief presentations on advances in genetic testing, genetics and disease, expanded newborn screening and genetic counseling. Following these presentations, attendees will be invited to pose questions, make comments, and discuss these issues. The purpose of these meetings is to provide accurate information on genetics in society to the general public and to determine what questions and concerns people have on these issues. The Town Hall meetings are open to the public. Currently, two Town Hall meetings are scheduled. OKC Gospel FestivalSaturday May 31   
The Power to End Stoke (PTES) Gospel Fest is May 31st from 5pm to 9pm at Fairview Baptist Church. The Gospel Fest is part of the American Stroke Association's Power to End Stroke (PTES) campaign targeting African Americans because of their high risk for strokes. The Gospel Fest is a signature event that will focus on the overall health and wellness of the African American community with a particular emphasis on stroke and stroke prevention.

The PTES Gospel Fest will be hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones, producer of Bobby Jones gospel and video gospel for Black Entertainment Television (BET). The event will be attended by 250 local community leaders and will attract more than 5000 participants. Attendees will be entertained with inspiring gospel music from eight choirs from across the state that will be selected through an audition process. The music will be punctuated by stroke messaging through announcements by Dr. Bobby Jones, audio PSA's and video clippings.

The Gospel Fest will also be highlighted by a unique health exposition that will feature screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, sickle cell anemia, and body mass index reading. In addition, complimentary informational brochures will be available for each screening done. A panel of doctors, nurses, and dieticians will be available to provide counseling and referral to individuals, particularly those who screen at high-risk.

El Reno Route 66 TriathlonSaturday May 31   
El Reno Route 66 Triathlon is at 7:30am on Saturday, May 31 at Lake El Reno.

This third annual event is a draw for athletes throughout our regional states. TRI-OKC and the City of El Reno present the Route 66 Triathlons, on Saturday/Sunday, May 31st and June 1st. Both events are held on the same course, with the majority of the bike route on Historic Route 66, The Mother Road. Route 66 Triathlon on Sunday is the State Qualifier for the Best of the US Amateur Triathlete National Championship. A USAT membership for participants is required. One-day memberships will be available at packet pickup for $10 for those who are not annual members. All participants must have valid photo ID along with their paid memebership card. You, and only you, can pick up your packet and race number. USAT membership must be paid separtely from race entry.

Tickets are now on sale for the 8th annual Mark Harmon "Pitch In for Kids" celebrity baseball game to benefit The Children's Center in Bethany, Oklahoma. This year, the game between Mark Harmon's celebrity friends and the OSSO Outlaws from OSSO Healthcare Network features high-profile players like Dallas Cowboys safety, Roy Williams and other NFL and NBA celebrities.

The game is at 3pm on Saturday, May 31st at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Pre-game events begin around 2:30pm. The purchase of a regular price game ticket also allows entry into the Oklahoma RedHawks game at 7:05pm. Tickets are now available through the RedHawks' box office, (405) 218-1000.
