Wait, Wait... Picks Up an Award
Peter, Carl and the whole gang at Wait, Wait. . . Don't Tell Me!, received a 2007 Peabody award for "a zippy update of one of broadcasting's long-ago staples" according to the Peabody committee. Peabody Award Award winners were named April 2 by the University of Georgia`s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in a ceremony in the Peabody Gallery on the UGA campus.

Generally regarded as one of the premier journalism awards, the Peabodys also recognize the best in entertainment in electronic media. Also a winner this year is Whole Lotta Shakin', the Texas Heritage Music Foundation`s public-radio series chronicling the 1950s heyday of rockabilly music, which aired on KGOU earlier this year.

A Cookbook and More: How to Eat Supper
Every week, The Splendid Table's host Lynne Rossetto Kasper and producer Sally Swift give public radio listeners a fresh take on their love of food; we can expect their book covernew cookbook will offer that same attitude and originality. The Splendid Table's How to Eat Supper: Recipes, Stories, and Opinions from Public Radio's Award-Winning Food Show is now available for purchase.

Lynne says the book is an extension of the show, but it has another primary goal: "It’s to say this act of eating supper is something that can have many, many faces," she says. "It is always about taking a moment for yourself or with people who are part of your life." Look for it online or at your favorite booksellers.

This I Believe:
Adapting to the Possibilities of Life
Dr. Donald Rosenstein believes in adaptation, that the same stimulus does not invariably elicit the same response over time. Listen to this essay that aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, April 27, by the Clinical Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, as he describes his adaptive responses to his son's autism.

NPR and the New China
ChinaNPR News is presenting six months of intensive coverage of China, leading up to coverage of the Beijing Olympics, August 8 to 25. Throughout the spring and summer, and across all NPR programs, we'll hear reports about the rapidly changing nation from many angles: its youth, technology, schools, development, environment and its place in the world.

In preparation, NPR staffers in China are giving us a sneak peek at some of the people, places and events they'll be reporting on in a new blog, Chengdu Diary. (Don't miss the video of the pandas!)

WEB EXCLUSIVE: NPR's Book Tour
Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions
NPR Book TourAccording to behavioral economist Dan Ariely, classic economic models assume that people act rationally, in their own best interests. Ariely begs to differ. He says we're creatures of impulse, who waste money, underestimate risks and procrastinate. Listen to Ariely read from his book Predictably Irrational, hear him discuss his behavioral studies, or read an excerpt from the book yourself, at NPR.org.
