The Oklahoma House has approved a bill to create a defined contribution option for state employee retirement benefits.

The proposal would allow state employees hired after July 2014 to choose between the defined contribution option and the current defined benefit system. The House approved the bill 72-20 Tuesday, sending it to Gov. Mary Fallin.

Nearly 70 current and retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers are visiting legislators and urging them to pass a bill to give them a pay raise.

The troopers gathered at the Capitol Tuesday and encouraged lawmakers to revive a bill that would give a 16 percent pay raise to all Department of Public Safety employees, including troopers.

Under the measure by State Rep. Jeff Hickman (R-Fairview), the entry-level pay for a state trooper would jump from $38,000 to $44,194.

The Oklahoma House has given final approval to a bill meant to make it more challenging for a minor to get an abortion without parental consent. The chamber approved Senate amendments to the bill 82-5 today with no questions or debate.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin has vetoed measures to create a pension improvement revolving fund and a task force to study autism in adults, but signed eight other bills.

Fallin issued two veto messages on Monday, saying she rejected the pension improvement revolving fund because it had no funding mechanism. The governor says she supports the goal of improving the state's pension system but that another bill she signed on Monday has an appropriate funding mechanism.

The cost of getting a driver's license in Oklahoma will go up by about $12 under a bill making its way to Gov. Mary Fallin's desk.

The Senate voted 30-15 on Monday to approve the bill that would increase the cost of issuing or renewing a standard driver's license from $21.50 to $33.50.

The cost of various commercial drivers' licenses also is going up by $10. The new rates will be effective Nov. 1.
