Evil Dead: The Musicalopens October 10 at the Pollard Theater in Guthrie.
Based on the cult classic horror films starring Bruce Campbell, the rock musical tells the story of five college students who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash demonic forces. Like the original films, the stage production is filled with campy humor, disgusting demons, and buckets of blood. The first two rows of seating are a designated “splatter zone,” where audience members can expect to get drenched.
Show times are from October 10 through November 1 at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with Thursday showings on October 23 and October 30, and midnight showings on October 24 and October 31. Tickets are available at the Pollard Theater box office or by calling (405) 282-2800. Splatter Zone tickets are available one hour before the show at the box office only.
The Myriad Children’s Garden hosts Pumpkinville, a celebration of fall and Halloween. The event features more than 3,000 pumpkins, as well as crafts, games and more.
Children are treated to Harvest Stories every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Parents and children - ages five through eight - can come listen to spooky stories. Afterwards, children create a small craft inspired by the stories to take home.
Pumpkinville runs from October 10 through October 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Foundation hosts the PAWSitive Steps 5K, Dog Walk and Dog Costume Contest Saturday, October 11 at Wiley Post Park.
The event is part of an effort to curb unnecessary animal death in Oklahoma. Dr. Fawn Reely, the PAWSitive Steps Event Chair says that oversized pet populations are a serious problem.
“There’s a philosophical dilemma that is presented when we look at the example we may be setting as citizens and as a state,” Reely said. “The fact that pets are dumped to become someone else’s problem is disturbing.”
Proceeds go to the state’s Pet Overpopulation Program, which gives financial help to low-income pet owners to spay/neuter their pets.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., runners will race a 5K course along the Oklahoma River. Due to the narrow racing track, dogs will not be allowed to run alongside their owners. A dog walk and pet costume contest starts at 9:30 a.m., with prizes awarded to the top three dogs. Attendees can also get their pets microchipped for $25 while supplies last. Registration is $35.
