What the National Weather Service's Norman Forecast Office is calling a "highly complex winter weather scenario" is expected to move through central and northwest Oklahoma this weekend.
Very cold air will move in behind a front Saturday night into Sunday, bringing light wintry precipitation. Northwest Oklahoma could see the greatest amount of snowfall during the first round - anywhere from 1-2 inches.
In the Metro, meteorologists predict some light snow, drizzle, or freezing drizzle, but that should have little to no impact on travel.
Forecaster Marc Austin says a second, more powerful round of winter weather will likely arrive late Sunday through midday Monday, bringing snow, but possibly sleet and brief freezing rain over southern Oklahoma and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
"Most precipitation should transition into all snow by Monday afternoon," Austin says. "Snow accumulations will be likely in some areas, however, exact amounts remain uncertain."
Austin says it's a good idea to monitor the weather closely if you have plans this weekend or early next week, and be prepared for potential travel delays.
