Listeners and Program Costs Rise

This is the Manager’s Minute.

KGOU has seen a large increase in the size of our audience in the last 18 months. We’re up about thirty percent over that time .

One of the keys to growing listenership is programming.

Much of KGOU’s broadcast and online content is produced by our own team of journalists. Costs of producing and distributing local content amount to more than $480,000 each year.

We also purchase national programs, including favorites such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered and BBC News.

And, those costs keep rising.

Our annual payment just for NPR is $275,000.  KGOU’s total annual payment for national programs and services is $374,000.

It’s a big investment – and that’s why your financial support is so important. Thanks.

Until next time, with the Manager’s Minute, I’m Dick Pryor.

Dick Pryor has more than 30 years of experience in public service media, having previously served as deputy director, managing editor, news manager, news anchor and host for OETA, Oklahoma’s statewide public TV network. He was named general manager of KGOU Radio in November 2016.
