More than 100 Tulsa police vehicles have yet to be outfitted with dashboard cameras four years after the process of installing them began.
The project began in 2010 after officials agreed to pay more than $4 million to purchase and install cameras in all police vehicles as part of the settlement of a long-running racial discrimination lawsuit against the city.
Officer Leland Ashley says 470 of the 575 vehicles planned for installation have cameras. But Ashley says the department is waiting on the purchase of new police vehicles in late November or early December before installing the remaining 105 cameras.
The Tulsa World reports that even when those vehicles are purchased, the remaining cameras will not be installed until the department can purchase the laptops necessary to run them.
