Students Learn, Contribute at KGOU

KGOU Radio
Taitum Wilson, student host and calendar producer

This is the Manager’s Minute.

The Fall semester is underway at the University of Oklahoma, and that means new students at KGOU.

We have three Practicum students from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication learning first-hand how KGOU operates. You may have already heard each of them on the air.

Benji Vasquez, Nick Daniels and Matthew Viriyapah have been producing community events calendars, doing audio production, assisting with programming administrative duties and preparing news stories for KGOU.

Practicum provides students with an educational experience in a real world, professional setting.

And, we’ve just added a new part-time student employee, Taitum Wilson, who will be producing events calendars and serving as on-air host. We also expect to have election news stories from Gaylord College students for our collaborative reporting project, online at oklahomaengaged.com.

Be watching for those stories and reports from Storme Jones about news from the nation's capitol as he continues his semester on special assignment in Washington, D.C.

Until next time, with the Manager’s Minute, I’m Dick Pryor.

Dick Pryor has more than 30 years of experience in public service media, having previously served as deputy director, managing editor, news manager, news anchor and host for OETA, Oklahoma’s statewide public TV network. He was named general manager of KGOU Radio in November 2016.
