An Oklahoma County judge says a former state lawmaker convicted of bribery can remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction.
District Judge Cindy Truong set a $10,000 bond Wednesday for former Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore. Truong ordered Terrill to surrender his passport and not leave the state. He must also wear an electronic monitoring device and avoid contact with witnesses in the case.
A 12-member jury convicted Terrill Tuesday of offering a bribe for withdrawal of candidacy. Prosecutors allege Terrill, a Republican, offered to put former Democratic state Sen. Debbe Leftwich in an $80,000-a-year job at the medical examiner's office if she would not seek re-election in 2010 so a Republican colleague could seek her open seat.
The jury recommended a one-year prison sentence and $5,000 fine.
