Oklahoma's commissioner of health has named a new deputy.

Dr. Terry Cline, commissioner of health and secretary of health and human services, appointed Julie Cox-Kain as his deputy secretary of health and human services.

Cox-Kain also becomes senior deputy commissioner for the Oklahoma Department of Health. She has served as chief operating officer for the agency since 2009.

Cox-Kain is a 23-year employee of the agency and has served in a variety of administrative roles. Before her tenure as chief operating officer, she served as deputy commissioner of the agency's service branch that addresses communicable diseases, chronic diseases, emergency preparedness, immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, injury prevention, tobacco use prevention and the State Public Health Laboratory.

Cline says Cox-Kain has been instrumental in leading health improvement initiatives within the agency.
