State agencies requested capital improvement projects totaling $5.3 billion in the latest round of submissions to the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) capital asset management division, members of the Long-Range Capital Planning Commission were told Thursday.
The commission, with the help of OMES staff, must cull down that list and submit it to the Legislature during the first week of the 2015 legislative session.
Lawmakers then have 45 days to approve or disapprove the project list.
Approximately $15.2 million is currently available to fund projects in fiscal year 2016.
Ben Davis, senior planner with the Office of Management and Enterprise Services' division of capital assets management, said $4.6 billion of those projects were submitted by higher education institutions.
Once the Higher Ed projects are removed, the project list totaled $701.9 million, said Davis.
When projects with other funding methods such as dedicated revenue, federal funds, gifts and money from other sources are taken off the list, $622.1 million in appropriation requests or general obligation bond issues remained, said Davis.
