Gov. Mary Fallin and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management have added five counties to the growing list of counties seeking federal disaster assistance for individuals and business owners who have damage from severe storms and flooding last month.
Counties added to the list Friday are Choctaw, Cotton, Jefferson, Okmulgee and Stephens. The federal government has so far approved federal aid for individuals in 13 Oklahoma counties with requests pending in 17 more. Public assistance has been approved for 40 counties requested by the state.
Individual assistance makes federal aid available for housing repairs or temporary housing and for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans for individuals and businesses to repair or replace property damaged by storms that began May 5. Public assistance provides aid for local government infrastructure repairs.
