Gov. Stitt Nominates Former Teacher As New Education Secretary

Ryan Walters

Governor Kevin Stitt nominated a new secretary of education Thursday.

Ryan Walters is a former history teacher in Mcalester and currently the CEO of Every Kid Counts, which is overseeing the dispersal of $8 million dollars of CARES Act money to provide $1,500 grants to low income families.

Walters takes over for Michael Rogers who resigned the position in August to focus on his role as Secretary of State in Stitt’s cabinet.

Walters' role is to promote and shape Stitt’s education policies alongside the state legislature and education boards.

His appointment is ultimately subject to approval of the state senate.
