Halloween Treats For Adults Fill This Week's OneSix8

OKC Pride

This week’s OneSix8 acknowledges that adults can enjoy Halloween just as much, if not more than children.

OKC Pride, in conjunction with the 39th District OKC, presents the inaugural “Treats and Tricks on 39th” Halloween Block Party, Friday, Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The new business association 39th District OKC offered to assist OKC Pride in producing the holiday-themed event which boasts live music from The Black Frames and others, comedian Amanda Kerri, beer & food vendors, games and a costume contest with cash prizes.

Michael Clark, president of OKC Pride, says the Halloween Block Party will be the hot spot for those celebrating the holiday because, “If there’s one thing OKC Pride knows how to do, it's throw a party.”

N.W. 39th St. will be blocked off between Barnes and Pennsylvania avenues for the event.

Reduxion Theatre Company presents the musical thriller "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

Sweeney Todd is a murderous barber who slits the throats of his customers. His equally deranged accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, helps to dispose of the dead by turning them into meat pies.

This murder-filled thriller features Hugh Wheeler’s libretto and the songs and music of Stephen Sondheim.

Friday and Saturday showcases begin at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoon. All shows take place at the troupe’s newly relocated space 914 N. Broadway Ave, Ste. 120.

Another musical showcase that is seemingly perfect for a Halloween night showcase is the Pollard Theatre’s production of “Evil Dead: The Musical.”

Based on Sam Raimi’s cult film series, “Evil Dead” tells the story of five college kids whose weekend getaway turns into a blood-drenched battle against demonic forces. The songs in the musical adaptation only add to the campy nature of the original film series.

The Pollard Theatre is located at 120 W. Harrison Avenue in Guthrie. Halloween night showtimes are 8 p.m. and midnight. The final performance is Saturday at 8 p.m.

The OKC Theatre Company’s production of “Carrie, The Musical” comes to its bloody conclusion this weekend in the Civic Center Music Hall’s Freede Little Theatre.

Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, OKCTC’s musical adaptation also draws inspiration from the legendary 1988 Broadway musical. “Carrie, The Musical” features a libretto by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

The cast promises an extra-creepy midnight show for Halloween, followed by one last performance set for 8 p.m. Saturday, November 1.
