This coming Tuesday is the first anniversary of the tornado that swept through Moore, killing 24 people, injuring at least 377 others, with an estimated 1,150 homes destroyed and an estimated $2 billion in damages.
Governor Mary Fallin will help Moore City leaders in the "Moore Community Remembrance Ceremony" at 10 a.m. The event will also include a groundbreaking for the construction of the new Moore Medical Center.
Then, the Oklahoma Strong Monument Project hosts "A Taste of the Town..." to raise funds for a planned monument to recognize the strength of Oklahomans.
At 10 a.m., in a tribute to those lost, the City of Moore and the Norman Regional Health System is hosting the “Moore Community Remembrance Ceremony” and “Moore Medical Center Groundbreaking,” The ceremony will conclude with a groundbreaking of the new health care facility.
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, Moore city leaders and Health System officials will address progress made since last year’s deadly and devastating tornado.
The ceremony will be held on the former Moore Medical Center site, 700 S Telephone Road. Parking is available at the Moore Warren Theater.
At 5:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Strong Monument Project will host “The Taste of Our Town…A Monumental Celebration of Community.” Organizers say it will be an evening of food, fellowship and fundraising that will benefit the planned monument that will celebrate the resiliency and strength of the people of Oklahoma.
The event will be at Plaza Mayor at the Crossroads inside Crossroads Mall. Over 30 restaurants will be providing food, as well as a silent auction and a cash bar. Music will be performed by Seven Mile Bridge. Tickets are $25.
