Oklahoma is getting $1 million in federal funds to help health centers in the state establish or expand behavioral health services for 2,696 people.

Health Resources and Services Administration Administrator Mary Wakefield announced the Affordable Care Act funding on Thursday. Nationally, $51.3 million in funding is being distributed to support 210 health centers serving about 440,000 people.

The Affordable Care Act expands mental health and substance use disorder benefits. Health centers use the funds to hire new mental health professionals, add mental health and substance use disorder health services and employ integrated models of primary care.

About 19 health centers in the state operate more than 84 service delivery sites that provide care to over 162,871 patients in Oklahoma. In 2013,Oklahoma health centers saw over 8,284 behavioral health patients.
