As KGOU and KOSU began crafting ideas for our collaborative election project Oklahoma Engaged, we were interested in several forms of storytelling. This included informative and in-depth radio stories and video profiles of folks in a south Oklahoma City district.
In this video, Charito Rodriguez talks about the issues that face the Hispanic community in Oklahoma City and why she thinks it's important to vote. She owns the Babalu Cuban-Latin Cuisine food truck, and says she's seen little action on immigration issues despite years of promises from candidates.
Rodriguez also says there's a lack of support for the Hispanic community, and little voter outreach. She's concerned about education, and thinks the main challenge for her community is finding opportunities after high school graduation.
