A national technology firm plans to open a facility in Norman that will bring hundreds of jobs to the state.
The business texting firm BFAC.com is opening its Mobile App Development and Operations Center on the University of Oklahoma's Research Campus, just a few hundred yards north of the National Weather Center.
Gov. Mary Fallin said the company’s CEO Brad McMullan told her he wants technology to be as valuable to Oklahoma’s economy as oil and gas.
"But ladies and gentlemen, these are great-paying jobs of all sorts, and especially high-tech jobs are very, very exciting," Fallin said. "And 200 – I hope that’s just the beginning – jobs in Oklahoma will certainly add to our diverse economy that we want to have.”
The Mississippi-based company creates mobile products for more than 40 state governments and elected officials, as well as the U.S. military, restaurants, and charities.
McMullan is an OU graduate and former student body president, and Norman Mayor Cindy Rosenthal said BFAC plans to take advantage of students looking to start their careers in Oklahoma’s growing technology sector.
"It’s especially exciting when you come back and you also bring opportunities for our students who don’t have to go away, but instead can find great jobs here and stay in our community and help build a great community," Rosenthal said.
