KGOU Sunday Radio Matinee
Sundays 12 - 1 p.m.
Public radio has many excellent limited-run programs that are regularly featured in this 'variety' hour: Intelligence Squared U.S., America Abroad, Invisibilia, etc. The Sunday Radio Matinee also plays host to KGOU's own documentary productions and various other special content offerings.
This week's Sunday Radio Matinee feature:
Sunday, May 16, 2021 @ noon
The KGOU Reader's Club continues its look at the Tulsa Race Massacre as the 100th anniversary of the destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, also known as Black Wall Street, approaches.
For decades after the events of Memorial Day 1921, Oklahoma students could go their entire educational experience without hearing about the Tulsa Race Massacre in school. That’s beginning to change as more and more people recognize the importance of teaching children about this shameful chapter of Oklahoma history. "Opal's Greenwood Oasis" is a children’s book meant to introduce the history of Greenwood to the very young. Authors Quraysh Ali Lansana and Najah-Amatullah Hylton joined KGOU managing editor Logan Layden to discuss their book.
