This is the Manager’s Minute.

Donations are still coming in, but we can now give you the early results of KGOU’s Fall fundraiser.

Thanks to nearly 900 of you we raised more than $105,000 during the drive and have brought in $142,000 since the beginning of the new fiscal year that began in July.

I’d like to welcome 152 new givers who have joined us for the first time and thank the more than 700 of you who renewed your support.

Thanks also to more than 800 sustaining members who contribute a regular amount on a monthly or annual basis and renew automatically.

We’re still finalizing the figures, but now can give a preliminary report on our fundraising for the fiscal year that ended in June.

Donations totaled just over $550,000, a decrease of about one-percent from the previous fiscal year.

Money gifts actually went up about two-and-a-half percent, but vehicle donations dropped.

KGOU has just ended one fiscal year, and begun another.

This has been an eventful year – we’ve added a new transmitter in Clinton, expanded our StateImpact Oklahoma team and dramatically increased our number of weekly listeners.

We’ve launched two new podcasts (How Curious and Capitol Insider) and improved our severe storms and emergency alert system. We've grown our StateImpact Oklahoma reporting and launched the Oklahoma Engaged 2018 election project.

When I’m out and about seeing friends, attending public events and speaking to groups I’m pleased to learn how many people listen to KGOU.

Often, they tell me it’s the only radio station they listen to; some even say they enjoy the Manager’s Minute. That’s always nice to hear.

Listener loyalty means a lot. It says the people we serve, you, appreciate what we do.

Just a few days ago, we finished the on-air portion of our Spring fundraiser. To all who contributed – THANK YOU.

We appreciate our loyal supporters, who donate through annual one-time gifts and those sustaining members who give to KGOU with ongoing monthly contributions.

In addition to renewals, we’re also pleased to see a large number of new members who stepped up and gave to KGOU for the very first time.

We appreciate your vote of confidence.

Happy New Fiscal Year!

Summer is beginning, as KGOU’s fiscal year is ending.

KGOU operates on a July first through June thirtieth fiscal year.

This has been a year of transition and growth for the station, even as state funding has continued to shrink.

As part of higher education, KGOU’s annual appropriation has dropped almost 50-thousand dollars in the past couple of years, and more state cuts are possible.
