Chasing the Gloom Away: Cimarron County Oklahoma Women Versus the Dust Bowl
Twenty-five years ago, Dr. Shelly Lemons and Dr. Steve Kite interviewed more than 100 women who lived through the Dust Bowl during the period of 1932-1940.Interview subjects lived in the epicenter of the Dust Bowl in northwestern Oklahoma. The project became Dust, Drought, and Dreams Gone Dry: Oklahoma Women and the Dust Bowl Oral History Project from the Oklahoma State University Library. Currently Lemons and Kite are working on a book project related to their oral history work. At their public lecture, community members will have the opportunity to learn more about their work, gain a deeper understanding of women in the Dust Bowl, and ask questions regarding their oral history project, the Dust Bowl, and the presentation itself.
