Lecture Series: Language Diversity – Past and Present
Lecture Series: Language Diversity – Past and Present
Speakers: Dr. Raina Heaton, Associate Curator of Native American Languages, Sam Noble Museum, and Associate Professor, Native American Studies, University of Oklahoma.
While discussions of “diversity” and “extinction” often center around the biological and geological sciences, very similar processes are taking place with respect to historic and contemporary languages. Dr. Raina Heaton presents an overview of both historic and contemporary language shift, and what is being done to address the loss of our planet’s linguistic diversity.
