Entertaining The Hours of Your Week: Fun Fundraising

Jonclegg

This week's OneSix8 gives you an opportunity to raise money for a good cause while playing with pups, having a giant slumber party or enjoying some barbeque.

Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Heftner hosts the 10th annual Pirate Puggerfest from 10:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m. October 5th. Admission is $5 for adults and kids are free. Guests are encouraged to bring their own pugs because all proceeds of the event go to the Homeward Bound Pug Rescue and Adoption of Oklahoma.

And if you want to go all out you are welcome to come dressed as a pirate and participate in the costume contest. But if costumes aren't your thing there are plenty more festivities to enjoy. There will be pug races, curliest tail contests, silent auctions and a prize wheel.

For those looking for some good eats this weekend Oklahoma City's Farmer's market holds Savannah Station Roundup on October 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be all you can eat barbeque provided by Swadley's, a live band performing, and an open bar.

Savannah Station is therapeutic riding program based out of Mustang Oklahoma. Costs to get into the event is $30 per person and all proceeds go to benefit the program.

For more fundraising festivities join in the FeedOKCNow in the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark for Connect, an all night fundraising event where guests spend the night on the ballpark field and listen to music, play games and promote City Rescue Mission's FeedOKCNow campaign. Guests arrive at 4:00 p.m. the evening of October 4th  and leave around 6 a.m. the next morning.

Attendees take part in a poverty simulation and gain understanding of how many Oklahomans live every single day. Along with the activities guests are encouraged to bring materials to make their own shelter for the night. The entire family is welcome.

Other charitable events going on this weekend include:

Crossroads Hospice in Oklahoma City seeks volunteers for their "Honor our Veterans" recognition campaign celebrating local heroes in our community.

Oklahoma City hosts a special waste collection event this weekend on October 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the state fairgrounds. They are taking unwanted commuters, ammunition, tires and over-the-counter prescription drugs.

The Child Guidance Program hosts free developmental screenings for children at various libraries throughout the state.
