Work is continuing in Okemah on the rebuild of folk legend Woody Guthrie's boyhood home.
Project spokesman Johnny Buschardt says the site plans are completed and the lot where Guthrie's home one stood is prepped. He says a construction schedule will be finalized over the holidays.
Organizers want to raise about $500,000 for the rebuild, which will use original planks of wood salvaged from the site decades ago.
Guthrie, best known for the song "This Land is Your Land," wrote hundreds of folk songs and ballads. His lyrics celebrated American workers, lamented the woes of the poor and advocated for civil rights.
Although revered as one of the best songwriters in American history, he was rarely acknowledged by his home state for decades after his death in 1967.
