Queen Bees, Steel Wheels, Daddyo's And The Charlie Christian Music Festival

This weekend is packed with live music by several local and national acts. From jazz to blue grass to grunge pop, you can listen all weekend without going broke, with cover charges ranging from free to $10.

The Daddyo’s rock the stage during the H&8th Night Market in Midtown Oklahoma City. The Tulsa trio released their second album late last year and received an excellent review by local critic Joshua Boydston in his preview of Friday’s H&8th lineup. In addition to music, the monthly festival features around 30 food trucks parked along Hudson Avenue. Music begins at 7:00 p.m.

The 30th Annual Charlie Christian International Music Festival kicks off Thursday evening at Elmer Thomas Park in  Lawton with an All Star Jam Session titled “Chit’s House of Cool." The festival continues Friday and Saturday evenings with several jazz acts. The City Hall Auditorium hosts an exhibit celebrating the life of Oklahoma guitarist Charlie Christian along with children’s arts and crafts activities all day Saturday. The festival closes Sunday with a gospel concert. Get your tickets at Charlie’s Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, an Oklahoma City legendary treasure shop of collectible vinyl and posters. 

The Queen Bee Ceremony celebrates more than 30 metro area female artisans and performers Saturday night at the Dope Chapel in Norman.  The emceed extravaganza features singer-songwriters and burlesque performance; prints, photography, arts and crafts; and food by Norman artisans Peaches Amspacher, Larla Hayes, Christina Owen and Claire Mal.

Participating print and sculpture artist Klair Larason said she's honored to have her work featured in the show.

"I've seen more than half of what these artists and performers create and I'm always amazed by their versatility, capture of beauty and the powerful communication of their ideas," Larason commented. "I look up to a lot of these women and learn from their example and leadership."

The Summer Breeze Concert Series presents Steel Wheels at Lions Park Sunday evening. It’s a family friendly environment, so bring your strollers, picnic blankets and hula-hoops. If you like the string band, you can see them again Monday evening at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa.

Tuesday at dusk, cyclists of all levels are invited to join a full moon ride. Gather on the great lawn at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. The community ride leaves around 8:30 p.m.
