Other details:
Since our local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization started singing bars and restaurants in 2017, we have commissioned many new works by local composers sung by local professional opera singers! It started as an event called the 10-Minute Opera Festival. This year, since we rebranded our company from Opera on Tap - OKC to OK City Opera, we also rebranded the event to the MicroOpera Festival. It is technically the fourth installment of this event and will feature more composers than ever before. Six proposed new micro-operas were selected through a competitive call amongst local composers last fall and the new works were workshopped with singers and producers in February. The local singers who will bring these operas to life this June are a part of our auditioned roster, who regularly sing at our monthly themed variety shows. More details about each opera and its creatives can be found on our instagram @okcityopera. This event is a true embodiment of homegrown community art and music-making!
