Fort Sill To Tighten Security For Protection Of Personnel Living On Base

USAG Fort Sill

A U.S. Army post in southwestern Oklahoma will soon tighten access for visitors.

The Lawton Constitution reports the change at Fort Sill is a result of assessments made by Maj. Gen. John Rossi, who took command this summer. Officials say the increase of background vetting and access control is for the protection of those living at the base, not because of a response to a specific threat.

All active and retired Department of Defense workers and family member identification will be accepted to enter the Army post. Other types of common access card IDs made by the Department of Defense also will be accepted.

Everyone else will be directed to a Visitor Center for entry.

A Fort Sill official says the implementation of the new access procedures has been tentatively set for late January.
