Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has filed a legal brief in the U.S. Supreme Court's review of an Oklahoma abortion law.
The nation's highest court in June granted Pruitt's request to review a decision by the state Supreme Court declaring the law unconstitutional. Pruitt filed his brief Tuesday.
The U.S. Supreme Court has asked the state Supreme Court to clarify whether the state law would ban the use of certain abortion-inducing drugs. The measure that was struck down requires physicians to administer abortion-inducing drugs in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration protocol.
The FDA says thousands of women have had life-threatening complications and at least eight have died from the "off-label" use of the abortion-inducing drug. Pruitt says the state was within its authority to enact the law.
