State agencies are requesting more than 1,500 capital projects totaling more than $500 million, members of the reformed Long-Range Capital Planning Commission were told Tuesday during their first meeting.

Ben Chase, senior planner with the Office of Management and Enterprise Services’ division of capital assets management, said the requests were submitted by state agencies between February and June.

Chase will spend the rest of September and most of October scoring the projects, he said, based on a criteria approved by previous members of the commission. He will present the draft fiscal year 2015 project list to the commission in October for discussion and then approval at its November meeting.

“In Ocotber, it is my intent to have a draft plan for your consideration,” Chase told the commission’s nine members. The approved list will be submitted to the Legislature in February, which under the terms of House Bill 1910 can approve it by taking no action, remove projects from the list or disapprove it in total.

“The Legislature still has to appropriate money…” to fund the projects, Chase said in response to a question.
