Gov. Mary Fallin says more than 2.9 million meals were donated to help feed hungry Oklahomans as part of her annual food drive.

Fallin and officials from the state's two largest food banks released the results Thursday from the governor's month long Feeding Oklahoma Food Drive. The results more than double the goal of 1.4 million meals.

The governor kicked off the month long food drive Oct. 1. She had made the food drive her inaugural event after her election in 2010.

The food drive collected 2.6 million meals last year.

Fallin says Oklahoma consistently ranks among the top 10 hungriest states in the nation, with more than 675,000 residents facing hunger each day.
