Organizational Day Set For Oklahoma House Tuesday

State Rep. Jeff Hickman (R-Fairview)
Oklahoma House of Representatives

Members of the Oklahoma House are preparing to formally name the chamber's speaker and other top officers.

House members will meet on Tuesday for the chamber's Organizational Day, when House members are formally seated on the first day of the first session of the 55th Oklahoma Legislature. The House will reconvene on Feb. 2.

The House will certify the results of last fall's elections and then nominate and vote on a speaker and speaker pro tem for the upcoming two-year legislative cycle.

In November, the House's Republican majority informally named Speaker Jeff Hickman as speaker-elect and Rep. Lee Denney as speaker pro tem-elect for the upcoming legislative session.

The House will also meet in joint session with the Senate for the publication of last fall's statewide election results.
