President Donald Trump announced on Friday that his administration was adding six countries to the list of nations that have been subject to travel restrictions since 2017. The countries added are Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan. All have significant Muslim populations.
The Trump administration’s rationale for the expansion is that it’s necessary for national security.
The new set of restrictions is set to take effect on Feb. 22. These changes could reportedly hinder the settlement of about 12,300 potential immigrants in 2021.
