Mexico Drugs
Alleged drug kingpin, Juan Garcia Abrego (AH-bray-go) is in jail today in Houston, awaiting arraignment on charges of overseeing the distribution of large amounts of cocaine and marijuana in the United States from a base in northern Mexico. Abrego, a U.S. citizen, was deported from Mexico yesterday after being seized by Mexican anti-drug agents. In the United States, the White House has hailed the arrest and deportation. But NPR's David Welna reports the incident has created controversy in Mexico, where Abrego is suspected of involvement in bribery and corruption at high levels of the Mexican government.
Czech Dissident
Robert speaks with Jan (YAN) Kavan (KAH-van) - a former Czech member of parliament who was asked to resign more than 4 years ago because information found in his security file. It was believed that Mr. Kavan collaborated with the Old Communist government in the late 1960's against student dissidents. Mr. Kavan could not believe the allegations since he was a celebrated dissident himself. Today, in Prague....he was vindicated... the Justice Department exonerated Mr. Kavan of all allegations. And Mr. Kavan will now run for political office once again.

Unbearable Bears
Reporter Ruby De Luna from member station KUOW in Seattle has this story about grizzly bears and Yellowstone National Park. The park has a grizzly-version of the "three strikes and you're out" rule, which ships bears out of the part if they bother humans three times.
French Strikes
Liane Hansen speaks with David Culhane in Paris about the trike by public workers which is entering its third week. The strikes are in rotest of planned changes to France's social security system.
Infectious Diseases
NPR's Joe Palca reports that a new study has found that the number of Americans who die from infectious diseases has been increasing. Researchers at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that deaths from infectious diseases increased 58 percent from 1980 to 1992.
Peace Implementation
Danny speaks with NPR's Michael Goldfarb in London about the wrapup today of a 40 nation conference on how to rebuild Bosnia. The meeting set into motion the machinery to deal with such issues as refugee resettlement and finance. Overshadowing the event was a French threat to "hit" the Bosnian Serbs if the Serbs don't return two French flyers who were shot down in a NATO mission last summer.
