the first phase of India's parliamentary elections. About 60-percent of India's estimated 590-million eligible voters are expected to cast ballots. The next phase begins later this week, and voting is scheduled to be completed on May 7th.
Tasmania Shooting
Trent O'Keefe reports from Australia on the massacre of at least 34 people on the island of Tasmania. The gunman began his killing spree at a popular tourist site. He continued shooting at a local pub before taking three hostages to a cottage. Police arrested the man after he set the cottage and himself on fire. Two bodies were found in the rubble. Police have yet to find the third hostage.

He's spent twenty-five years treating violent men, as former medical director of the Bridgewater State Hospital for the criminally insane, and director of mental health for the Massachusetts prison system. NPR's Richard Harris reports that dinosaur bone hunter Paul Sereno today unveiled his latest finds, including the skeleton of a huge meat-eating dinosaur that once roamed what is now Africa. Sereno and his colleagues unearthed the remains while hunting for dinosaur bones in the Sahara. The creature is giving scientists a better picture of dinosaur evolution.
