NPR's Eric Westervelt reports on the arraignments of an Army captain and two staff sergeants at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. The charges include rape, sodomy and sexual assualt. The accusations - which surfaced last month - touched off a wave of sexual misconduct reports throughout the Army. The soldiers will face trial early next year.

The BBC reports on today's defiant statement by P.W. Botha, former apartheid president of South Africa, to that nation's Truth Commission. Botha refused to apologize for white minority rule, and shunned the suggestion that he would need to seek amnesty for past crimes committed by the regime.

Actress GLENN CLOSE. She currently stars in Disney's "101 Dalmations" as Cruella De Vil. Before taking up this role, she appeared on Broadway in "Sunset Strip." Close has appeared in a number of films including: "Fatal Attraction," "The Big Chill," "The Natural," "Dangerous Laisons.
Lobsters To Europe
Steve Tripoli has a report on the annual two-week intensive lobster harvest in New England, which culminates this week. The harvest and shipping season coincides with the tremendous seasonal demand in Europe for lobsters, which are part of the traditional New Year's meal in that part of the world.

Central Europe Freezes
Europe is suffering through extremely harsh weather conditions this week. NPR's Michael Goldfarb reports that the normal winter-time weather patterns have changed. This week, Europe is affected by cold winds blowing out of Russia. Temperatures in some areas have dropped to as low as 34 degrees below zero.

designed to educate teenage fathers about the responsibilities of parenthood. He profiles Bobby Verdugo of Bienvenidos Families, who encourages teen fathers to support their children, both financially and emotionally.
Pres. Disability
The Working Group on U.S. Presidents Disability, a private commission, examines whether the 25th Amendment provides enough contingencies for a smooth transition and sufficient guidelines for succession of power, in the event that a sitting president's physical or mental health is impaired. The group, which includes four former White House physicians, historians, and scientists, is reviewing past questions about presidential disability such as those surrounding Presidents Kennedy, Wilson and Reagan. Joanne Silberner reports.
