Goats that were originally introduced to the woods of the Olympia ational Forest in Washington state for hunting are now devouring the area's reens and plants, including one species that is considered endangered. In past ears, park officials tried a variety of management methods, including snaring he beasts in nets and sterilization. All have failed to stem the goat opulation. Jennifer Schmidt of Seattle member station K-P-L-U reports that many elieve the only alternative is to shoot the goats in order to control their ising numbers.
