As expected, Oklahoma State University guard Cade Cunningham was taken by the Detroit Pistons with the top pick of Thursday's NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-8 guard is the school's tenth first round choice, and its highest draft pick since Bob Harris was taken third overall by the Fort Wayne Pistons in 1949. Cunningham was the Big 12 Player of the Year last season and averaged 20 points and six rebounds per game for the Cowboys.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder entered the night with 10 percent of the draft's picks. But after a couple of trades, they wound up with four selections:
- 6-foot-7 Australian guard Josh Giddey. The 18-year-old averaged 10.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists in the Australian league last season.
- 6-foot-5 guard Tre Mann. The 20-year-old averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Flordia Gators last season.
- 6-foot-9 forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. The co-Big East Player of the Year led the Villanova Wildcats in scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg).
- 6-foot-6 guard Aaron Wiggins. The 22-year-old averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Maryland Terrapins last season.
OKC now enters another shortened off-season, with their first preseason game just about two months away on Oct. 4.
In other news of interest to Thunder fans, multiple outlets are reporting Russell Westbrook will be traded from the Washington Wizards to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal set to be completed next week.
Finally, although University of Oklahoma guard Austin Reaves went undrafted, it was reported that he has been signed to a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
