The 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo wrapped up this weekend, even though it’s 2021 and only a few months from the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

McAlester native Micha Hancock was part of the U.S. women’s indoor volleyball team, which took gold in Tokyo. Tulsa-born Kenny Bednarek won silver in the men’s 200 meter race. Former OSU goalkeeper Adrianna Franch was part of the bronze medal winning U.S. team in women's soccer.

Weightlifter Katie Nye was born in Bowlegs and got a silver medal in the 76 kilogram event, the first better-than-bronze outcome in the event since 1984. Janie Reed used to be an assistant coach for OU’s softball team, and Keilani Ricketts a former pitcher for OU. They were both part of Team USA’s silver medal performance at the games.

And of course former Thunder superstar Kevin Durant was part of the men’s basketball team, which, after struggling early, ended up with a gold medal, as expected.
