39th Annual Jazz In June Festival (June 16-18, 2022 at Andrews Park in Norman, OK)

39th Annual Jazz In June Festival (June 16-18, 2022 at Andrews Park in Norman, OK)

The 39th Annual Jazz in June Festival has announced the 2022 festival will be live and will kick off on Thursday, June 16th and run through Saturday, June 18th. All concerts will be held in Andrews Park. The family-friendly free event features world-class blues and jazz concerts nightly.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s first-class line-up of artists, and the festival being held each night in Andrews Park,” said Norman Hammon, Executive Director of Jazz in June. “This venue is a crowd favorite with green grass and cool breezes under the stars. The vibe is truly special.”

• Thursday, the festival kicks off with a mix of jazz and blues.
The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors will lead off at 7:30 pm. The internationally-acclaimed 19-member ensemble is the United States Army’s premier big band. Canadian singer/guitarist JW-Jones will take the stage at 9:15 for a high-energy and unforgettable experience. Winner of the 2017 and 2020 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, this performance will be live music at its finest.

• Friday, the music turns to a new vibe with Nth Power taking the stage at 7:30. This funky and soulful band believes in music as a higher power. Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce’s world-touring drummer for 5 years, so audiences should expect to get to their feet. Headline band Marquis Hill & the Blacktet will take the stage at 9:15. This intensely interactive, utterly unique band has become a true graduate school for next-level talent. The band’s music ranges from contemporary and classic jazz, hip-hop, R&B and even Gospel.

• Saturday’s festival finale begins with GRAMMY-winning artist Mark Lettieri on the main stage at 7:30. Proficient in many musical styles, he has recorded and performed in virtually every genre of popular music with major-label artists. The energy of the festival’s final evening will not disappoint as headline band Ghost-Note takes the stage for the final performance at 9:15. This band with multiple GRAMMY-winning artists has been described as “an explosion of sound” with rhythm at the forefront. This performance will round out a truly energetic and fun-filled evening in the park.

“This festival will be like no Jazz in June before,” said Kate Bierman, Jazz in June Board President. “The artists performing each night will appeal to everyone and bring the community together.”

Instructional, but informal musical clinics are also scheduled for children and adults alike and all are offered free of charge. More information about the events, artists and venues will be updated on the jazzinjune.org website and Facebook page. Known as the “Hippest Jazz Festival Around”, Jazz in June remains a local, free, family-friendly treasure.
The media is invited to attend.
