Canterbury Voices presents Handel’s Messiah
Celebrating the holiday season in spectacular form, Canterbury Voices presents the largest performance of the masterpiece Messiah at the Civic Center Music Hall on Sunday, December 5 at 7:00 PM. One of the most beloved choral oratorios, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah begins with the phrase “Comfort ye my people.” In a year when people need comfort more than ever, Canterbury Voices joins with the OKC Philharmonic, bringing to life this beloved Oklahoma City event.
Joining the performance are Dr. Kelly Holst, lyric coloratura soprano, Professor of Music at Oklahoma City University; Dr. Courtney Crouse, mezzo soprano, Professor of Music at Oklahoma City University; Steven Sanders, tenor, Associate Professor of Music at Oklahoma State University; and Mark McCrory, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Oklahoma.
Canterbury Voices Artistic Director, Dr. Randi Von Ellefson states, “Handel once said this about Messiah — “I should be sorry if I only entertained them; I wished to make them better.” The great oratorio by Handel is well known, and I hope that when you hear it performed live in concert — it WILL make you better by feeding your soul, bringing you joy, and bestowing a musical blessing on everyone as we celebrate the Holiday Season.”
In partnership with the Civic Center Music Hall, safety measures for this season will include requiring masks for all concert goers, regardless of vaccination status. In addition, all performers and staff at the Civic Center are fully vaccinated and performers will be tested before the performance. Tickets are now on sale and group discounts are available.
