The Oklahoma Department Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Oklahoma History Center will co-host Lynne M. Jackson, great-great granddaughter of Dred Scott, and founder and president of the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation in St. Louis, MO. She will speak, 1-3 PM, in the Chesapeake Room. Dred Scott and his wife, Harriet, were pioneers in the American Civil Rights Movement. Their case, the landmark Dred Scott Decision of 1857, became a major catalyst for the Civil War. Since the inception of the foundation in 2006, Lynne has dedicated herself to casting new light on the history of her ancestor and the Dred Scott Decision by commemorating, educating, and actively working toward reconciliation.

She has appeared in numerous media outlets, including C-Span, NPR, Netflix, Time and Newsweek magazines. She has three National History Awards from the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is an honorary member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

The presentation is free to members of the Oklahoma Historical Society, and free with paid admission to the Oklahoma History Center for non-members.
