Wildlife Walks

Wildlife Walks

Join local author Nicholas Davis for a close encounter with Oklahoma's amazing critters! This outdoor event will take you on an exciting expedition to spot local birds, bugs, reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitats near the library grounds.

We'll start inside the library and take a walk down our walking trail. We will be learning how to use the Merlin ID app that listens to the birds around you and tells you what kind of bird is singing.

We suggest bringing the following:

  • comfortable clothing and shoes, suitable for the weather
  • sunscreen
  • water bottle
  • mobile smartphone with eBird, iNaturalist, and/or Merlin apps for bird identification.

We have limited handheld fans, water, binoculars, and cooling towels.

Demonstrations for using apps for birding and citizen science will be provided.

Nicholas Davis is the Commercial Underwriting Manager for MidFirst Bank’s Southwest commercial markets, the Bank’s SBA department and the Bank’s Private Banking department. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2002 with a BA in Economics. Nicholas’ hobbies are varied and include photography, working with animals, fly fishing, and writing. He is a published author, self-publishing his book The Year I Fell In Love With Bluebirds: Observations and Muses of a Backyard Bluebirder in 2023. Nicholas is considered a “citizen scientist” spending much of his free time studying the world around him. His deeply personal experiences with bluebirds gives him a unique perspective into the lives of bluebirds and other Oklahoma birds.
