Happy New Year!

Creative Commons/Flicker/EEPaul

Dec. 29, 2013

This is from the Manager’s Desk.

I don’t know about you, but this past year has flown by. I just learned the habit of saying "twenty-thirteen." But we are looking forward to 2014.

Jan. 1 is KGOU’s anniversary, and we are marking 31 years of public radio service. KGOU’s longevity is a combination of constant support from the University of Oklahoma, the constant availability of the annual grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the constant support from KGOU listeners. And that support has enabled KGOU to grow.

KROU, serving Oklahoma County, turns 21 in June. The translators serving Seminole and Ada turn seven in July and August. The Chickasha translator turns four in August.

KWOU, serving Woodward and northwestern Oklahoma, and KOUA, serving Pontotoc County, both turn three in January.

Happy Anniversary to KGOU, and Happy New Year to you!

Fom the Manager’s Desk, I’m Karen Holp.

Karen earned her Master (1974) and Bachelor (1972) degrees from the University of Akron in Ohio, and has worked as Program Director at WMRA-FM, James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia and WUIS-FM, University of Illinois at Springfield. She moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1979 to become General Manager of KRWG-FM.
