All five members of the Oklahoma U.S. House delegation voted for a Republican-backed bill to address the crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border by sending migrant youths back home without hearings and to shut off a program granting work permits to immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally when they were children.
Both bills passed the House late Friday with Republican Reps. Tom Cole, Frank Lucas, Jim Bridenstine, Markwayne Mullin and James Lankford voting for them.
The legislation includes language recommended by Cole that says military installations should not be used to house immigrants in the country illegally. Cole's district includes Fort Sill, where unaccompanied minors in the country illegally are being housed.
The Senate has already adjourned for Congress' summer recess so neither bill stands a chance of becoming law.
