State's High Court To Review Capitol Repair Decision

Oklahoma Capitol Improvement Authority members voted unanimously Monday to seek the Oklahoma State Supreme Court’s validation of the legislation authorizing a bond issue to fund improvements to the State Capitol.

The authority’s action comes after Oklahoma City attorney Jerry Fent filed a formal protest with the Supreme Court concerning HJR1033. The resolution, by Rep. Jeff Hickman, R-Fairview, and Sen. Bryce Marlatt, R-Woodward, authorized the Oklahoma Capitol Improvement Authority to issue up to $120 million of bonds for the renovation, repair and remodeling of the State Capitol.

Fent alleges the resolution is a special law, which requires lawmakers to give notice of its intended introduction through publication which he also said was not done.
