Another state prisoner diagnosed with COVID-19 has died. The man, incarcerated at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, was taken to a hospital where he died.
The state medical examiner’s office will determine his cause of death.
Department of Corrections Director Scott Crow confirmed the prisoner’s death in an interview with StateImpact Thursday morning. Crow said the man had underlying health conditions that could have been complicated by COVID-19.
As of Wednesday, 92 prisoners at Joseph Harp were infected with COVID-19 and eight were hospitalized
This is the second state prisoner known to have died after a COVID-19 diagnosis. A woman from Eddie Warrior Correctional Center in Taft died last week. Her cause of death is still being determined.
