Officials at Moore Public Schools welcomed teachers to a new school year following a devastating tornado that destroyed two schools and damaged many others.
Superintendent Robert Romines spoke to more than 1,400 Moore Public School teachers Monday morning – 84 days after a massive tornado struck the community. He says about 750 new students enrolled in Moore Public Schools during the 2013-2014 school year.
Teachers were also updated on the progress of the school district's recovery, changes to the locations of some administrative facilities and resources that are available from national support organizations.
Classes are scheduled to resume Friday, with students from the destroyed Plaza Towers Elementary School going to Central Junior High School, and Briarwood students attending classes at Emmaus Baptist Church.
Storms that stuck the area on May 20 and May 31 damaged 23 of 36 sites in the Moore school district.
