A storm system will develop over northern Texas and southern Oklahoma this afternoon and evening that could produce damaging winds and large hail, and the potential for tornadoes.
The most likely area for severe weather this afternoon runs south and east of a line from Clinton to Ada. The strongest storms could produce baseball to softball size hail, 60 to 70 mile per hour winds and a low potential for tornadoes. The possibility for tornadoes is greatest in southwestern Oklahoma and northern Texas.
The chance for severe thunderstorms increases this evening between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. for central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metro area.
The chance for severe storms will dissipate by Monday morning but rain will linger until Tuesday morning. Some places could receive two to four inches of rainfall Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service puts Oklahoma City, Clinton, Altus and Ada under a medium flood potential where localized flash flooding is a possibility and rivers could rise due to prolonged heavy rain.
