Leaders at Tecumseh Public Schools are apologizing after trees planted to mark the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing were removed recently.
Superintendent Tom Wilsie says workers cut down the trees because they partially blocked the view of a new school sign. He says he was unaware of the trees' significance until after they had been removed.
Students from Tecumseh Middle School planted the trees following the bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that killed 168 people.
Wilsie tells the Shawnee News-Star that school officials are now in discussions to come up with a new memorial, possibly one that would coincide with the 20th anniversary of the bombing next year.
