The Big 12 announced it will proceed with fall sports after other collegiate athletic conferences postponed their seasons. In light of this decision, the Big 12 released COVID-19 protocols and a revised football schedule that will impact the University of Oklahoma.
According to a press release, Big 12 players in “high contact” sports like football, volleyball and soccer will be tested for COVID-19 three times per week. Non-conference football opponents must also comply with the coronavirus testing protocols the week leading up to a game.
The Big 12 also released a revised football conference schedule. OU’s football team will open league play at home against Kansas State on Sept. 26. This is two weeks after OU football will begin its season at home in its only non-conference game against Missouri State on Sept. 12.
OU-Texas is set for Oct.10, and Bedlam will be on Nov. 21.
Stadium capacities will be determined by each Big 12-member institution, according to a press release. All non-conference games must take place before Sept. 26.
The Big 12’s decision to continue with fall sports comes after the Big Ten and Pac 12 conferences announced they will postpone fall sports.
“If at any point our scientists and doctors conclude that our institutions cannot provide a safe and appropriate environment for our participants, we will change course,” Victor Boschini, Big 12 Board of Directors Chairman, said in a press release.
Here’s OU’s full 2020 football schedule, as of Aug. 12:
